Description
An interconnected series of feedback loops were developed, that use the cast shadows of Medina’s branch installation as a graphic score for a sound piece to emerge. Garcia Belmont visually reads the shadows based on a predefined set of rules and performs using a vinyl documenting some of the earliest field recordings ever made in the Amazon (each track corresponding to a different species). The sound is projected into the space vibrationally through the “Cloud” a custom speaker system that is attached to the heating system of the gallery, as well as through directional speakers that are positioned to interact with the branch-based sculptures. Medina performs in correspondence to the auditory patterns emerging from the sonic landscape, agitating and setting the systems into motion in specific choreographies that feed back into the sound work.
