DescriptionFormas started as a series of poems and experimental recitations titled Formas de Entender el Movimiento, written and performed in March 2022 at MIT. It culminated at the Art, Culture, and Technology Gallery, also at MIT, from October to December 2022. Through writing, sculpting, and recitation of poetry, the artwork inquires about the material relationships between sound and sculpture while questioning migration and extraction relationships between the global North and South America. The performances incorporate the voice of the poet (yo poetico) into specific materials that are contextually relevant to both the infrastructure of Cambridge, MA and the copper extraction processes in the Andes. The sculpture always performing a rotary movement, would amplify the poetry and feed it back again into its movement cycle. If stopped, the sculpture would create acoustic feedback to the point of collapse. Distortion pedals are also used to interfere with the spoken words, complicating the relationship between language and colonization.
